Picking days and hours
Peony blooms follow their own schedule, and we'll confirm the exact start date once the farm is ready.
We hope to open PYO from 1 November!

When are we starting?
We're a working farm - this means we pick, grade, pack and export our stunning varieties as they become ready, this is why you'll see varieties available for purchase and delivery.
We know you're eager, and we are too. When the fields are ready, we'll let you know.
We hope to open PYO from 1 November!

On the day
Groups go into the rows a few at a time, so the field doesn't get crowded.
- Check in at the farm shop, and we'll take you through a quick safety briefing.
- Groups leave from the farm shop every 20 minutes from 11am.
- While you wait for your group to leave, enjoy a coffee or an ice cream on the lawn.
In the field
Covered shoes are required. You will not be allowed into the field without them.
Bring your own clean snips if you can, and something to carry your flowers home in. Bucket hire is free at check-in while you're picking, and you can take a bucket home for $5.
Staff instructions are followed at all times. You pick it, you keep it — anyone dropping, discarding or throwing cut stems on the ground will be asked to leave, with no discussion and no refund.
Children are welcome and must be supervised at all times — at least one adult per child in the picking field.
Photography
- Phone and hand-held camera snaps for your own personal use are included with your entry, at no charge.
- Bringing a professional photographer along during picking hours starts from $100 — enquire with us before your visit.
- Private sessions, with the fields to yourself, are booked separately and run outside our normal hours.
How do you decide when to open/close the fields to Pick Your Own?
We only open up certain varieties once we've finished picking that variety for export. We will keep it open based on growth - closing it again when the plants need to rest and set new buds or if the weather is not suitable for picking. That's why picking days change throughout the season rather than running straight through it.
- Heavy rain or strong wind closes the field, for everyone's safety.
- Opening days depend on the day's bloom count. After a busy session we may close the next day to let the plants recover.
- We may close entry early if the day's blooms run out sooner than we expected.
Best way to know if it is open - We watch the crop every day and will update the Pick Your Own status at the top of the website.
Are you doing a Fill Ya Bucket event?
FYB is not currently planned... it will be a late addition IF we do. The Pick Your Own has taken its place, and the change was a deliberate one.
Fill Ya Bucket packed everything into a single day and a set time slot. Pick Your Own offers a chance to pick over more of the season, Wednesday to Sunday, so there is more time in the rows and a gentler pace through the field. Peonies set next year's buds off this year's growth, so a steadier rhythm of picking is what keeps the plants strong and the blooms coming back.
The bucket itself has not gone anywhere - just changed. You can fill one with up to 30 stems on any open picking day. We have also opened up the opportunity to Pay Per Stem. Picking days, hours and pricing are all on this page.
