Our Farm

Prebbleton Peonies is a small family flower farm just outside Christchurch, on the Canterbury Plains — the kind of free-draining, cold-wintered ground peonies actually want. We grow 21 varieties across the reds, pinks, corals and whites, each one picked at the stage that gives it the best vase life once it reaches you.

How the season works

Peonies don't bloom to a schedule — they bloom when the weather says so. Rather than promise a date months out, we open each variety for sale as it gets close, and update our Shop by Dispatch Date page every week with what's actually ready in the chiller. If you want a specific variety for a specific occasion, Pre-Order is the way to reserve it — we ship as soon as it reaches peak bloom quality, not before.

Export-quality vs shop-quality

Stems that meet our export grade go out by courier, boxed and chilled, on our Monday and Wednesday dispatch runs. Stems that are just as fresh but don't quite meet that grading — a shorter stem, a slightly open bloom — go out the farm gate instead, sold as single stems for local pickup. Nothing is wasted, and it's often the best-value way to buy from us if you're nearby.
